And check Risus out and let me know what you think. It is deceptively simple but so much more than it looks at first glance.
I've downloaded and taken a look at Risus. It reminds me of Tunnels & Trolls in its simplicity and lack of logic, but fast play and fun feel. I've also downloaded an adventure called "Talk of the Town" which I'm going to try at some point, probably when we can't all be present to play some form of D&D so we need to fall back on something else (the usual thing we fall back on is board games). I like it so far but I've yet to play it, though I think it could be good for one offs.

Is the new Cairn 2e going to be made available in the stores do you know? I went into one of my local gaming stores the other day and found a variety of OSR games in there (DCC; MCC; Hyperborea; OSE), and I was wondering if Cairn 2e is going to make an appearance.

I don't know if the Cairn boxed set will be in gaming stores, but I'm sure that pdfs will be available.

Ring of Thieves is a solo risus starter adventure. It will help you get the feel of the rules. Also, it is free on DTRPG

Risus is unassuming and looks simple, but I've found it to be very satisfying to play. I'm running a (hopefully) long term campaign will a pulp feel, 1930s gangster vibe, set in an alternate city based on New Orleans.

Let me know your thoughts as you game with Risus and any questions. A tenet of Risus is "There's no wrong way to play."

The only game I’m currently playing is play testing a system I’m designing.

But, I’m really looking forward to playing some WB:FMAG and S&W.

My tastes are changing, and OSR is pleasing to the palate.

I always seem to come back to FMAG - it's just a perfect iteration of White Box.

I agree with Merias, WB FMAG is a great starting point for OSR gaming. I always enjoy tinkering with the rules and making my own houserules and FMAG is a good framework to do just that.

I've never played the White Box system, whether that be D&D, S&W, or FMAG. I have WB D&D and FMAG in PDF, plus WB S&W in hardback book form, but I've never done anything with it as I always end up playing either Core or (far more likely) complete.

And yes - OSR has a pleasing taste.
OSR D&D is best D&D

Is it the new edition? The new edition on their website is absolutely gorgeous, though the original edition is good too and has more of a gritty feel. I wouldn't mind giving cairn a go at some point.
They have copies of the 2022 edition on eBay.

The 2nd edition is fully compatible with 1st Cairn. 2nd edition adds some backgrounds for character creation. I should be getting the boxed set of Cairn 2e from kickstarter sometime soon.

We've been running Cairn on Roll20 to try it out. I really like the rules and it is the son of Into the Odd...a great game.

At the moment, I am on a FKR style of game using Mydwandr. This is from the same couple that wrote Pits and Perils.

I may consider doing a Cairn or Mydwandr one shot here just to showcase the game.

I just took a quick peek at the 2nd ED, but I got the First Ed via Amazon. I can't wait to see the 2nd ed. Looks very gritty but simple. To quote the song I'm the king of simpleton....
