Re: Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
Balthar looks up from the corpse of Edgar with his sword drawn. "Perhaps we should take cover in the ruins should Preston and Dern ambush us. Maybe they have unpleasant companions."

Good idea. Search him first, he might have good information on him. Or at least a few silvers, suggests Milton.

Edgar Bass's body lies cleaved in two.
You search his pockets and find a flint and steel. He also carries a hand axe and a spear. The armor he wears is chain mail but it has a large gash in it courtesy of the large northman, Thorhall.
Around his neck is a small stone pendant on a bit of cord. It is a polished black stone with a carved symbol similar to the symbol on the barn door at Farmer Skinner's.
The ruins around you are quiet...perhaps too quiet.

Tarmo grabs the handaxe and secures it in his belt, then tosses the pendant to Balthar. "I believe we have found the advance guard, be wary! Balthar, that stone necklace may come in handy if we need to pose as one of the followers. If luck is with us we can secure a few more this night!" Tarmo recovers what arrows he can and takes cover with the others.

Your small group of adventurers waits for perhaps an hour...all is quiet, but Tarmo spies at least ten figures moving among the ruins beyond your position. A voice calls out to you, "Come, join us. Heimos will bestow his merciful blessings upon your head...you shall soon meet our lord. Lay down your weapons, we will spare the first person that does so."

Milton gives up his weapon, one arrow at a time, as soon as he can see a target.
