Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
Re: Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
Seeing the only exit blocked by the gate, Tarmo turns and charges into the group of men, swinging his handaxe. "They can't burn us if we are among them!" he yells as he charges.
Re: Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
Let's use the same tactic. Get a torch ready, we burn these guys, says Milton, his feet still smarting.
When the baddies get close enough he will dump the rest of the oil and light it.

Seeing Milton dump the oil, Tarmo thinks better of his charge and hangs back.

After sheathing his sword, Balthar lights a second torch from the first and hands the first to Milton.
Re: Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
Milton touches torch to the pool of oil and shouts of alarm rise up from the men in the hallway. Several men catch fire as one of their ranks drops a wooden bucket of oil into the already blazing conflagration.
The remaining men beat a hasty retreat.

Balthar has the torch and his sword at the ready.
"Well, it looks like the other direction is our only way" says Balthar. "What do you think,Tarmo?"
Balthar will move with party towards the gate if the party agrees.

"Yes, it seems we have but one direction to go at the moment...let's see about that gate!" Tarmo says.
He'll go down the stairs and examine the gate - is it locked? Or is it more like a portcullis?

Re: Chapter 7 -- In Search of a Book Seller
The gate is made of rusted iron and yes, there is a lock built into the door. It is heavy and still appears solid. Beyond is a dingy and dark corridor, smelling very musty.

Milton will try a hand at it if Tarmo fails.
