"I could be wrong, but this might be a trap", whispers Balthar. He follows his companions with sword drawn.

As you near the door, you see light flicker from within the room and smell something acrid.

As Milton approaches, the door swings open. Standing just inside the door are two men. They are in the process of overturning a metal cauldron of flaming oil.

The floor in front of the door becomes a pool of flames. Waves of fire roll towards Milton and the others!

[Initiative...PCs=3, Foe=5]

Milton tries to elude the flames [saving throw=4] but is too slow. His poor little frog slippers are burned. [Milton takes 5 points of damage!]

Tarmo, Balthar, and Thorhall all move back against the onslaught of the fire. [Tarmo saves=14, Balthar fails save=8, Thorhall fails save=7]

Tarmo steps back just in time, no damage.

Balthar is splashed by the flaming oil [ 3 points of damage]

Thorhall is mildly singed [ 1 point of damage]

The fire spreads along the floor creating a noxious cloud of smoke.

Tarmo looses his arrows as he steps back, away from the burning oil, shooting blind through the smoke and into the room.

"Milton, no!" he yells. If he can leap over the oil, he will do so in order to assist Milton. Otherwise he will wait for the flames to subside before rushing in with his handaxe.

"Curse the gods!", yells Balthar, staggering back fighting the pain of the burns. He regains his composure and will follow his companions into the room if the flames allow.

Milton bravely disregards his wounds and leaps into the room, stabbing with his rapier as he does so.

In spite of his best efforts, his attack is for naught. His rapier slips in his hand and clatters to the floor between two robed men.

[Milton rolled a 1]

Two arrows follow the rana into the room, one misses, but the other strikes a figure [5 points of damage!] The arrow sinks deep into the man's chest and he collapses.

Balthar jumps nimbly over the pool of burning oil. With a flick of his wrist, Balthar nicks the man's exposed neck, opening an artery.

Both enemies are dead. The room is otherwise empty. A solid oak door sits in the far wall.

Tarmo attends to Milton's wounds if he can, then searches the bodies.
