Alexander flinches as an arrow clangs off the back of his armor!

[Milton rolled a 9 +1 for dex = 10, Miss! I then gave a 50% chance of hitting Alexander, but arrow misses him as well.]

Milton's second arrow strikes deep into the creatures chest. A rush of air escapes its punctured lung. [5 points of damage!]

Alexander pulls his dagger and stabs at the creatures neck. [4, miss!]

[grabbing for the sword would take one round, the creature could make an attack against Alexander if he did so.]

[We will pause for a moment to see if Aldarren will attack with missile or melee]

Aldarren rushes forth with his axe, cutting a gash across the creatures chest. [3 hp damage!]

The zombie turns and snarls, seemingly unaffected by the attack.

He lunges towards the ranger, filthy hands barely missing Aldaren's throat...the ranger feels heat radiating from the zombies hands.

Actions?

Milton yells, I say, stand back. I think this is a boomer! and fires off another set of shafts.

Alexander will retreat a couple of steps, allowing Milton a clear shot. If possible, he will jump at the zombie with his dagger once more after Milton's arrows have passed.

Milton fires two more arrows into the creature, [total of 5 damage!]

The zombie spins and falls down in the road, lying motionless. Right before your eyes, you see the embedded arrows begin to smolder and burn.

The creature doesn't explode, but you still feel the heat from some evil source within it. It slowly ebbs as the creature finally founds peace at last.

No valuables on this creature. It appeared to be a villager in his former life.

[Each of you gains another 20 xp]

Alexander puts his dagger behind his belt, then picks up his swords and carefully wipes it clean before sheathing it. He takes a closer look at the zombie that lies on the ground and disdainfully looks down onto the creature: "There might be more coming... Let's move away quickly and travel through the night. We musn't rest before we are verily safe."

Milton gathers his arrows if possible. Yes, we should leave this place before reinforcements arrive. He places a hand on the creature (if it isn't too hot). Is it cooling down? Are there hot spots? He also does a quick search of the body to see if it has anything of value or identification. It would appear that the unquiet dead are truly infernal. This is a grave development.

Milton recovers one arrow that missed the creature. The remaining shafts are burnt and useless. The creature's body is indeed cooling off. Milton makes a guess that prolonged proximity to the creature would inflict heat damage.

There is nothing of value on the creature. It's garments are charred.

Aldarren - Ranger

"This is unlike anything I have ever seen. As you have said, let's be on our way," Aldarren says, deeply disturbed.

Milton nods in agreement. Let us make haste.
