Gerhard looks over the items in the market. He will purchase 2 flasks of oil, 50' of silk rope, and 12 iron spikes. Also he would like to find the blacksmith if possible and buy three caltrops (large ones that would make a hill giant say ouch.)

Oberon decides that all seems orderly with no opportunity for the vigourous application of Skull-breaker and repairs to the inn for ale, supper and a good nap.

Web for 210? Fenwick looks in his purse. A bit rich for my blood, although I hope to purchase more later. How about the sleep scroll?

Guntram heads to the inn, smiling, humming, and nodding his head as if he hears a conversation no one else can. Guntram will wait for his new companions in the common room of the inn. He'll pray to the Goddess and grab an ale. He is looking forward to a night at the inn.

The 105gp is firm, unless you or your companions have something in trade to sweeten the pot.

If Fenwick can manage to speak with Gerhard before he spends all his gold, Fenwick could chip in about 30gp (he has 15gp and another 15 for the wolf pelt.

You set out early the next morning, Grimma leading as before. Perhaps
an omen, but overnight a stiff wind brought dark clouds and rain. You
cross the river to your south at the ford once again, careful not to
lose your footing in the now rough current, then head north and due
east towards Grimmsgate. Away from the river, the land becomes hilly
and rocky again. Here and there a copse of trees dots the
landscape. More than once, you pas by strange signs - bones arranged
in a circle around a human skull; a small, red-stained wicker basket
by the side of a tree, an unmarked grave.

Encounter: 1d6=3

You are wet, hungry and finally glad about mid-day when you see ahead
of you the distinctive hill upon which the village of Grimmsgate is
built. At the top, there is a small cluster of buildings. Even at
this distance, the place looks run down. You can just barely see the
half-collapsed roof of what might have been a temple. Although the
village is not fortified, the hill is very steep and one path leads up
to the top.

"Well, there she is," Grimma says. "Doesn't look like much, now does
she? Let's hope they have some bit of civilization left and can get us
out of this rain for a bit."

Oberon follows Grimma up the hill, trailing Skull-breaker behind him in case of trouble.

"I need a bath and my armour needs the opposite. It'll soon be rusted solid!"

OCC: I don't see Grimma's character sheet anywhere?

Yes, as a NPC I'm keeping her a bit mysterious. I think it adds some flavor to the game hiding certain PC particulars also (or only sharing what the player wants to share), but that is hard to do in the PbP format.

You firm your resolve and head up the path. It winds steeply up the
hill, with an occasional switchback. You pass several stone farmhouses
along the way, all clearly abandoned. One of them has a wooden shutter
that bangs open and closed in the wind.

Near the the hilltop, the path is blocked by a half-ruined
gatehouse. The gates have fallen off and have been pushed to the side
to keep them from blocking the entrance. However, a rusting iron
portcullis has been lowered, and there is a guard standing atop the
building with his crossbow leveled at you.

"Hold! What business have you in Grimmsgate!"
