After what seems like an eternity, the party hears the unmistakable twang of a bow being fired, then a roar and the noise of brush being trampled. After a few more moments you see Gerhard running at full speed up the deer track towards you, bow in hand. Grimma draws her sword and moves to the side of the trail, away from the river.

Ha! The suspense was even killing me!

Dolgrim puts away his sling and readies his hand axe: he takes cover at the river side of the deer track, right across Grimma, allowing Gerhard to pass and together with Grimma jump the thing that's chasing him as it passes in between them. "Be ready, Grimma, we charge at my mark!"

Gerhard breathes heavily, "two more...a big one and a little one...some kind of big goblin...comin' this way!"

He will run past the ready warriors and turn to knock an arrow, firing at any possible target.

Fenwick pulls his purple robes tight and hides behind a tree, thinking thin and hoping that the more martial types will take care of those giving chase.

Dolgrim tightens his grip on his shield and hand axe, bracing himself to jump out when the time is right. Just as the creatures pass between Grimma and him, he will shout: "...Now!" and attack the creature closest to him while roaring an ancient Dwarven battle cry.

Oberon will try to take a flanking position, possibly behind a sturdy tree, then barrel into the largest enemy when it appears (and hopefully rumbles past).

"Taste Skull-biter's sting horribly bitey snicketty thing!"

Gerhard runs past the group, then turns, ready to loose an arrow at his pursuers.
Guntram [auto-pilot] readies his flail and shield, standing with Gerhard.
Grimma and Dolgrim ready themselves on either side of the deer track.
Oberon and Skull-biter stand ready next to Dolgrim.
Fenwick hides.

A large creature standing three heads taller than the tallest of you lumbers past Grimma, Dolgrim and Oberon.

Taking advantage of the momentary surprise, you attack!

Gerhard lets fly a volley of arrows, one strikes its mark, sinking into the creature's chest. It roars and snaps the arrow shaft. One arrow flies wide, narrowly missing Oberon.

Grimma moves in with her sword, but her arm is swatted away at the last moment. Oberon brings Skull-crusher to bear but is taken aback by the size of the brute and his blow is ineffective. Dolgrim has better luck, wounding the creature with his handaxe.

Guntram bravely runs towards the large creature, he can attack next round.

A smaller goblin-like creature, a short distance behind the larger, sees the attacks, stops and ducks into the woods!

Dolgrim catches his breath: seeing his axe stained with blood encourages him to strike again!
