Memphisto walks over to the overturned workbench, the shattered glasswork crunching under his feet, and he picks up the alembic and beaker. Upon closer inspection, they're actually in pretty good shape and don't seem to be damaged at all.

Meanwhile, Lisglen checks out the other entrances. Both are in fact passageways ending at a door: the northern corridor ends after 3 m and the eastern passage ends after 9 m. The doors are similar to the ones encountered before: iron-bound, and somewhat moisty, oak. The don't appear to be locked in any way. No sounds are coming from behind either door.

"If you have no more things do do here, maybe we can proceed east?" proposes Lisglen.

The party moves to the east and meets Lisglen at the door. Holger steps forward and checks again for sounds coming from the other side: nothing... He grips the handle and gives it a firm pull: with a soft creak the door opens and Albin's flickering torchlight reveals what lies behind it.

A bronze statue of a bearded sage, dressed in robes, seated on a chair with his feet resting in a maiden's lap, stands in the middle of an octagonal shaped room that is 9 m across. His hand grasps a crystal-tipped staff. Another door can be seen at the north wall.

Mechanics:
  • Holger: open door... 1d6 = 3 => SUCCESS

Lisglen will examine the statue, especially the crystal.

Memphisto will carefully examine the base of the statue and the floor for anything that may indicate the statue can swivel or move.

He will then look at the crystal tipped staff. Perhaps it is a magical item!

The bronze of the statue is somewhat correded due to the moist air: several green spots in the recesses stain the yellow-brown surface. The statue is approximately 3 m tall and it appears to be quite heavy, even though it probably is hollow due to the standard technique of casting bronze. It is set upon a low, stone pedestal and looking closely at the floor around it, Memphisto doesn't find any indication that the statue has ever been moved after it had been placed here.

The staff is a solid part of the statue, also cast in bronze, yet the crystal on its tip seems to be an actual sapphire gemstone. It sparkles with different shades of blue in the torchlight and both Lisglen and Memphisto recognize the rare and precious material.

"The conversation with this poor cultist soul seems to confirm what you were saying. But I am not very familiar with this Xul he mentioned. Maybe you can tell us more about it?"
"Hmm, it's all rubbish. Some ancient dirt god or some such nonsense. Dirt isn't a god. Dirt's just dirt."

Occ: Mr. DM, what do I know about the cult and this complex?

Memphisto eyes the crystal, "Hmmmm, perhaps we can coax the gem out of this statue, no?"

He will examine the crystal and the prongs holding it onto the staff, testing the strength of one of the prongs with his dagger.

If it can be loosened, he will attempt to pry the crystal out.
