Memphisto breathes a sigh of relief, "Well, that ended well for us. No one is bitten?"

He will first examine the curiously glowing rat creature for any magical enhancements (but he won't be casting any spell).

Afterwards, he will continue to pry the crystal from the statue.

The body of the giant rat that glowed before looks just like any of the other rats: a ragged fur, worn down and chewed on at some spots, short but sharp nails on the strong feet, and vicious yellow teeth protruding from the crooked mouth. The magical enchantment, if there ever was any, seems to have bled out along with the rat's life.

Memphisto continues to work on the crystal on top of the statue's staff. After some fiddling with his dagger, he manages to get it right underneath the gemstone and with a firm twist of the blade, the sapphire snaps out from between the prongs.

He catches the crystal mid air and as soon as he touches it, he hears a sharp, loud humming sound inside his head, dying out over the time span of a couple of seconds. None of the others seem to have heard the humming, just Memphisto.

Memphisto cocks his head, "Did anyone hear that? A loud humming sound?"

"Curious. Well, this gem will fetch a pretty penny, no doubt," he says as he pockets the gem.

Van states, "I have heard no humming. What now?"

Memphisto looks at the door in the north wall. "Shall we press on?"

OOC--What do you guys think? We can open this door or go back to the west and open another door in the north wall?

Lislglen looks at the dead bodies with slight disgust. Turning to Memphisto, he says: "I certainly am not comfortable with the idea of leaving enraged giant rats in our back without being sure they will not come back and bite us later... or worse."

"As long as there is a solid door between us and them, moving forward looks good to me."

Dahl agrees with Memphisto: "We'd best keep that west door closed for now." He moves up to the north door and carefully pushes it open...

To the north is a mostly empty, 9 m by 9 m room. The only feature is a wooden workbench against the east wall, similar to the one that was in the room with the broken laboratory glassware. There is an open exit to the north west.

Memphisto will carefully examine the ceiling and floor for any critters before crossing over to look at the bench.

There is nothing notable about either floor or ceiling, which is 3 m high. The room is not plastered like the laboratory room, just dressed stone walls and flagged floors. There is nothing on or under the workbench, which consists of a rather simple, yet solid and heavy, frame onto which the thick table leaf is fixed.
