"Careful..." whispers Memphisto.

Dahl exchanges his spear for his sword and crouches down to gently clear whatever dust and debris there might be on this new section of floor, hoping to see something that might yield a clue to what is there, or a pull or handle of some kind.

Dahl brushes away the dirt to reveal the stone surface of the floor passing over into wood. The surface is quite smooth and the transition from stone to wood is almost seamless. There is no sign of any pull or handle. The wooden surface does not cover the entire width of the hallway: on both sides a narrow stone ridge of maybe 30 cm wide remains. Some 6 m further up ahead a junction with a corridor leading off to the south can be seen.

Dahl stands carefully and turns to the others. “There’s a stone ledge on both sides, about a foot wide. Looks like we should use those to cross this part of the corridor.”

"Maybe we can put a boulder or some other object on the wooden part to check what it does?" proposes Lisglen while looking around for something that could be used for that purpose.

Looking around, Lisglen finds nothing but some loose gravel accumulated along the walls of the corridor.

Lisglen takes a handful of gravel and puts it on the wooden surface, making sure he does not step on it himself.

The small pebbles clatter on the wooden part of the floor, but nothing happens.

Lisglen will then carefully put his feet on the wooden part, while still keeping his balance on his other foot.

Lisglen presses down gently with one foot while keeping his weight on the other one. Nothing creaks, bends or moves in any way. By this small test, the wooden surface seems solid enough.

Meanwhile Albin's torch is nearly fully burnt, and he lights Dahl's second to last one. Holger is getting somewhat restless, checking the back, peering into the room with the rug and shuddering at the thought of how the black, deadly spider leapt in there from its burning lair: "What's the holdup down there? Do we cross it or not?"
