Chapter 8: Forgotten Ossuaries

Dahl meticulously inspects the ceiling for any unexpected company as Albin moves up to the ancient door to enlighten the hallway. He then carefully inches forward, prodding and poking with his spear to make sure he moves onto solid ground, with Van following closely behind him, ready to spring to action if need be. The floor is covered with dust and small rubble, but it seems safe to pass and the adventurers carefully make their way through the corridor...

After 15 m the passageway ends in a 9 m by 12 m room. There is an exit on the north wall and another one on the south wall. On the south side of the east wall is a door. Just like the hallway it is cold, dusty, and cobwebby, but this room has some extra decoration: several small niches containing what seem to be human skulls line the walls...

Remembering an old tale he heard once, Dahl peers at the skulls wondering if anyone, or anything, is spying from behind the eye sockets. He then moves closer to inspect the skulls for any details of interest.

Memphisto will brush aside some of the dust on the floor. He is looking for any sign of the magical symbols that made him dizzy before. Also he will look for any sign of moving tiles or traps.

Entering the room last, Holger will move to the south passage, checking for any noise or motion.

Lisglen checks how easy it would be to open the south wall door.

Dahl takes a closer look at the skulls in the wall niches. They look forbidding but show no special markings or any other interesting details.

Memphisto clears some of the dust with the butt of his staff but the flagstone floor underneath seems to be clear of any magical symbols or hypnotizing mosaics. Moving around the room, he finds no sign of moving tiles or traps.

Holger peers down the south passage: by Albin's flickering torch light he can barely see how the cold and dark - yet quiet - hallway ends in a T intersection after 12 m. There is no movement to be seen or sound to be heard.

Lisglen finds that the door on the east wall looks just like the previous one: it doesn't appear to be locked or trapped and he figures that with some effort it shouldn't be too much of a problem to pull it open.

What do you guys think? Shall we see what’s behind the door?

Van shrugs. "Let's leave this area and let these skulls rest in peace. They might prefer we move on."

"I would be uncomfortable leaving doors unopened behind us. This is a treacherous place..." says Lisglen, while still looking at the door.

Memphisto says, "Yes, let's try the door."
