“Memphisto, Lisglen, sounds like we’ve got company on the other side. If this door can be opened quietly, maybe we can surprise them and see what they’re about.”

Lisglen looks at Dahl with a mixture of fear and curiosity. "Well, given that you seem to be a lot better at opening doors than I am, I guess it is your turn again!" he whispers to the warrior, while readying his staff.

Dahl will see if the door will open quietly. If not, he will apply a little bit of force, trying to time it with the musical mumbles so that there might be some chance of not being noticed right away.

Dahl pays close attention to the repeated chanting. At just the right time, he firmly pulls on the door handle and opens the door...

Flickering torchlight lights the 9 m by 15 m room that lies beyond the 6 m of hallway leading to it. You see the backs of four creatures, dressed in grey cloaks with hoods pulled over their heads, sitting at one of the several tables. They are clasping their hands and face the 30 cm tall statuette on the portable woorden altar that stands in the back of the room. None of the creatures seem to have noticed the door being opened and they continue their prayer undisturbed, mumbling in unison over and over:

"...The King of the Lost Cosmos slumbers... He who waits behind the wall..."

Mechanics:
  • Dahl: open door... 1d6 -1 + 1 = 2 => SUCCESS
    The +1 penalty to the roll is due to the fact that Dahl tries to open it without making any noise

Dahl motions to Albin to lower the torch, then whispers to his companions, knowing the party will need to act fast. First, looking at Lisglen, “Shall we try to sneak up and bind them with our ropes, or—” and here Dahl turns his glance to Memphisto, “shall we take no chances and assault them immediately?”

After a brief pause, Dahl adds: “My head—the gods save me—says we take no chances and surprise them with an attack.”

Memphisto whispers, "let us rush them with surprise, maybe they will drop weapons and surrender. If things go badly, I will make them very sleepy."

Dahl nods, a gleam in his eye (though that is nothing more than a bit of reflected torch light!).

So, you guys both want to surprise the acolytes with an attack with your melee weapons (Dahl with his spear and Memphisto with his staff)? I'm sorry for asking, I just want to make sure I understood correctly :D

No problem — if OK with the others, I will enter a clearer plan when I get home from work later. Until then:
Is Lisglen OK with the party rushing up in attempt to surprise attack? Will he join in?

“I’ll take the one on the far left—” Dahl turns to Albin, “will you take the one on the far right? Holger, I think you and Finnur should follow right behind us and take the two in the middle. Memphisto, keep yourself safe, but be ready with your magics if things go terribly wrong. Lisglen, guard the rear and shout a warning if anyone or anything approaches us from behind.”
