What Should Come Next for White Box?
Hi Folks,
The next big update for White Box:FMAG should be done by the end of this month. Then I will finish up the Quickstart.
But what should come next? What does the game need most?
I'm looking for just one answer here. What is the ONE thing you think should come next?

More options for demi-humans. I have seen lots of supplements with a ton of new classes, but nothing for the demi-humans. I think they are short changed in WB (and S&W) in general, they do not have enough racial abilities to make up for their lack limited class selection and level limits. I would like to see the demi-humans have their own classes. A dwarf warrior that is similar to, but different than a human fighter, a halfling burglar who is like the thief, but not exactly..They need more "flavor" right now the demi-humans are too bland.

An official WB:FMAG campaign sandbox... in digest format of course.

That's probably not something I can tackle. Cause if it were me, I would just house rule that there are no demi-human level limits or class restrictions.Maliki wrote:More options for demi-humans

I had an idea for a campaign setting and hex exploration rules. I called it "Into the Unknown" but I was also thinking about doing up a hex Map and populating it OD&D style and then letting the community grab a hex/hexes to add to it if they wanted to.foxroe wrote:An official WB:FMAG campaign sandbox... in digest format of course.
So it would be kind of a shared world for fans of White Box.

I coulda sworn someone commented in this thread about focusing on Wizard's Scroll but now I don't see it. Am I going crazy?
Anyway, as much as I'd dig Into The Unknown, I find myself veering more toward focusing on Wizard's Scroll for a while.
Aw, heck. Ill waffle and claim I'm voting for both.

I think I saw that too. I was going to comment on it but it must have been deleted.
I think that focusing on the Wizards Scroll could work. Everything I have thought of making would fit within its small page count but I fear that it would become a White Box zine instead of a S&W fanzine.

Nothing wrong with that! The Wanderer wrote:Everything I have thought of making would fit within its small page count but I fear that it would become a White Box zine instead of a S&W fanzine.

That was me, I couldn't decide. I do think a mini Hexcrawl Sandbox with a village map, hills, woods and a small dungeon (12 rooms and an exit to a lower level) would be of most use - but I don't think it needs to be a discrete product, I think it should be in the Wizard's Scroll zine, with maybe a series of follow up articles (more rumours, events, scenarios). I think this would be manageable and could sit along other content in the zine, so as a buyer you get a range of material and an incentive to pick up the next issue.Mach Front wrote:I coulda sworn someone commented in this thread about focusing on Wizard's Scroll but now I don't see it.
Whether to keep it as a S&W zine or just ' WB, compatible with zero edition games ' is a harder question. Especially when Continual Light gets a zine. Is it better to chase the FGG S&W crowd or cater to WB/DD/OD&D fans, can you appeal to both. What would you rather write for?

I forgot about Light doing it's own zine too.geordie racer wrote: Whether to keep it as a S&W zine or just ' WB, compatible with zero edition games ' is a harder question. I haven't mentioned it here but on G+ I announced I was going to try to do a podcast called ODD Things that would focus on OD&D and its clones. I recorded the first episode but it has some issues so I'm going re-record it.
Changing the zine to focus on OD&D and its clones might be a good idea. To be honest, I don't like Complete. But I do like Delving Deeper and Iron Falcon. They could use some support.
But outside of that, I'm not sure putting everything into a zine is a good idea. For a game to thrive it has to have supplements. So when someone looks up White Box on RPG now it's good for them to see adventures, setting and monster books. So I'm curious why do you think things should go in the zine?
