Chapter 3 The Kingdom Border
Re: Chapter 3 The Kingdom Border
We will traverse the forest parallel to our previous paths, just on the west side.
Re: Chapter 3 The Kingdom Border
Turning to the west, the party travels for about an hour. The forest is tangled and patches of briars and blackberry brambles tug at your clothing.
Somewhere in the distance a loud roar echoes. Birds scatter from the branches overhead. Was it the growl of a great bear or something else?
The forest opens up a bit and Bizenghast spots several large footprints in a muddy puddle. They are humanoid, not booted but bare and very large (twice the length of a tall man's foot).
Ahead of you is a low hill encroached by scrub trees and briars. You can see flocks of what looks to be bats, swarming over the hill and among the dark seclusion of the trees. They are 100 yards or so distant.
Actions?

Otis - Fighter
Otis points at the hill and says "I think we should wait here and be real quiet like, see what's around before we go walking in."
OOC: Maybe we recon this area and if it's something bad (looks like that's a pretty good assessment at the moment) then we could cook up an ambush or something. Otis isn't a coward, but he's not keen on going toe to toe with anything that could kill him outright...

Bizenghast: Sorceress
The Sorceress kneels down to the foot prints. She explores their depth, counts the number of their toes, looks for claws or heal spikes, and then measures the stride. She's no Ranger-Tracker, but maybe a bit of logic can reduce the possibilities. She mumbles quietly, but out loud, as she makes discoveries mind-mapping the footprints.

Fungo peers over Bizenghast's shoulder. I don't think they are leaf-men, he says helpfully as she examines them.
Re: Chapter 3 The Kingdom Border
Bizenghast, the Sorceress, spends some time looking at the impressions in the muddy ground. She looks deep in thought. The tracks do indeed, reveal some of their secrets to the magic-user.
Bizenghast notes the following;
1. The impressions, large as they are, don't seem to sink into the mud as far as you'd expect from a 600 pound ogre.
2. The stride is quite short, as if the ogre were taking small steps.
and the most baffling of all....
3. The curve of each foot appears to be opposite of what is expected. That is, the ogre's left foot must be on his right leg and vice-versa!
Not too bad, for a whelp of a slave girl with only one spell in her head...
You have about two hours of sunlight remaining and the bats in the distance have not seen you...yet.

Bizenghast looks at her companions and points at the prints, "Why?" Then quietly under her breath... "What our footprints reveal about our foot health!"

Otis doesn't take his eyes off the bats. He will move along according to the party's wishes.

"Let's get out of sight of those bats, maybe we can approach that hill from another direction so as not to be seen," Erwin says.
If there is cover nearby, let's use it and plan an approach that is not so obvious.
