New Quickstart

Post by The Wanderer »

Hi Folks,
We have discussed on other threads, doing a new/update to the quickstart that Michael Shorten put out 7 years ago. I contacted Michael and he was cool with us doing an update.

I have begun rewriting/updating the player section. I'll put a link on this thread when it is complete. Then you folks, can review and post changes that should be made to it. When we are happy with the player section, we can move on the the Referee section.

So far, we have 2 suggestions for the update. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

1) Add pre-generated characters
2) Add equipment packs, instead of the equipment lists

I look forward to working with you all on this. It should be a fun community/fan project!

--the publishing stuff
Anyone who provides feedback on this thread will be credited in the final booklet. For publishing purposes it will be revised for WB:FMAG. It will be a free PDF and at cost 6x9 booklet to be released on Lulu and Amazon.

Using Lulu as a base, if we do a perfect bound 6x9, it must be 32 pages minimum and will cost about $1.98 to print. So that is the target page count (32) for our "Little Beginner Book" or LBB (ha!)

Thanks for taking this on, this is really awesome. I can make up some pregens. I like the format Zenopus used for his Holmes ref pregen party, maybe something similar, all on one page? We could include the equipment, or just a note saying 'choose one of the equipment packs'.

Sorry for the delay on this. I had to move house recently and that took all my spare time. I was about to get back to this when I realized that I have my laptop but not the charger! I'm not sure where it is, but boxes are being unpacked. I'm sure it will show up and then I'll finish up the first draft of the player's section and post it here.

I've made a start on the pregens and equipment packs, you can see it here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uhg ... sp=sharing

There are seven White Box pregens - a Dwarf fighter, Elf F/MU, Human and Halfling fighters, MU, Cleric and Halfling Thief. Four equipment packs. Let me know how it looks, or if anyone has any suggestions on what to add or change. I can paste these all here in a separate thread if it would be useful.

Pregens look good. Maybe indicate which "rule" is on place regarding the Elf (class-switching or multi-classed) - depends on how the quick-start deals with it I suppose.

Awesome! Thanks Merias. I have my laptop charger, so I will be getting back to finishing up the first pass at the player section. I got a little sidetracked with getting things rolling with the fan zine

I modified the map of the Quickstart adventure a tiny bit and I'll be running it this weekend. You can see a picture of the map here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/phot ... ?icm=false

I made some changes to the adventure to give it a slight faerie tale feel. I made a Word document of it and redid the layout. After I run it, I'll clean up the document and post a link for you folks to review it and suggest changes.

Oh, and I printed up the pre-gens you made Merias, as back ups in case any of the characters die.

Excellent map! I've tried the Dyson hatching before, and it is not easy to get it to look right.

Thanks!

It's the first time I have ever tried hatching and it looks nowhere near as good as Dyson, But it works well enough.

I already made a couple adjustments to the map. So I'll redraw it again at some point and I'll see if I can do a little better with it.
