Return to the Elder Temple

Post by merias »

You face the Elder Temple again in the low, late-season sun. You can see two of the three entrances you have been through - the lower one to the west being shrouded in trees - only the one unexplored entrance beckons half way up the hillside. Actions?

You have the two lower entrances (to the west - undead rats, to the east - your first entrance with the stone face and cannibals) and the highest one (the green-glowing pillar room) that you have seen already, only the one midway up the hill is new to you.

Fenwick suggests, That middle one. I would have thought we'd have encountered it from within, like the higher one, but we did not. I say we start there.

Dolgrim agrees: "Aye, I am with the conjurer on this one." When he arrives at said entrance, he will inspect its construction to see if there are any particularities that catch his dwarven eye.

You climb halfway up the hill and move in front of an open tunnel that has been carved from the rock. The walls of the tunnel are straight and the floor is level. All around the opening there are carvings of skulls and skeletons, intermixed with ancient runes. Dolgrim can see with his Dwarven darkvision that the tunnel continues straight into the hillside, at first it is very narrow but it widens to about 10 feet after a short distance. He sees and hears nothing. Grimma lights her lantern.

Grimma has her lantern, anyone else have a light source?

Also, here is the current double marching order from the status thread, let me know of any changes:

Grimma - Oberon
Finnr - Dolgrim
Fenwick - Bart
Guntram

I assume Guntram now uses the magical mace?

Fenwick lights a torch and tries to read the runes on the wall.

Yes, Guntram is armed with the enchanted mace.

Fenwick puzzles over the runes for a few minutes.

INT check 1d20=11

They read - "Crypts of the Elder Temple"

Oberon whispers, 'Let's advance to the first corner and peer around to the right...Also, shall we share out the vials of holy water? That way we may be able to bombard the Ash Demon with several at once.'

Grimma lights her lantern and you cautiously move forward. There are several open corridors further along the tunnel you are in. The image of a human skull has been carved over the top of the first corridor that leads east, it goes only a short way before turning north into an open chamber, not all of which you can see. All is quiet.
