Gerhard looks at Fenwick and then at the kobold, I hope you keep him on a short leash. I'd hate to wake up with my throat cut.

When he finishes skinning out the wolf, Gerhard will take his bow and take a little walk around the camp. He will pick a high spot to settle down and keep watch for more kobolds.

Fenwick replies, I'd hate for you to deserve it.

Oberon salutes Gerhard and settles down to a pleasant dream in which he chases innumerable mange-ridden hounds into the Cauldrons of ravenous Snickets.

OCC: Pretty sure they were goblins and not kobolds. The distinction is not sufficient to trouble Oberon, he'll happily kill either or both. Preferably both.

Dolgrim looks around at the carnage, and with some disappointment creeping into his voice, Well done friends. Looks like I could've slept through this one this time.

Keeping a suspicious eye on the goblin, Dolgrim moves back to his bedroll.

Bart settles in next to his new friend and the rest of the night passes without incident. Dawn breaks with another cloudless day. You wish for a breeze to break the humidity but it is not forthcoming as you eat and break camp. Again Grimma leads you north, over and around much of the same hilly, rocky terrain.

[Encounter 1d6=5]

By mid-day the land has flattened and dropped into a river valley. You follow it's wide bank northeastward, until a shallow ford allows you to cross. Once safely across, you continue north. The land here is hilly but less rocky, with scattered groves of trees, and soon what you surmise is Wessex Keep comes into view. A stone bridge crosses a moat to a portcullis, now open, what you take to be a good sign. As you approach the bridge, the guards at the entrance spot you and call out a challenge.

Grimma seems to know the guards - whom she answers by name and who let you pass with only an odd glance at Bart.

"Fenwick, you'll want to head to the market, the magicks you seek should be there. In the meantime, the rest of us can head to the Inn and either stay the night or head out now. Personally, I'd rather stay here than brave the wilds again," Grimma says as she rubs her side, grinning at Oberon.

"Oh, try to stay out of trouble - they know me here, but Duke Caedwin is a bit of a loose bolt, if you run into him or his men, steer clear."

From what you can see, the interior of the walled keep is small but what structures there are are built upwards two or three floors. A central market is evident in the distance, along a wide, cobblestone path. Commoners and an occasional armored soldier mill about.

Fenwick heads to the market with Bart, Thanks Grimma. Hopefully I can find the scroll I want.

He will look for a magic stall for a scroll (or two if he can cut a deal)

Oberon follows Fenwick at a short distance - just in case anyone tries to part him from his purse before the transaction is complete.

Gerhard follows both Oberon and Fenwick at a greater distance. He will try to sell his wolf pelt or find an interesting trade. He will keep his distance from any guards. You never know who you might run into...

Fenwick gets some odd stares after the trailing Goblin, but he has no
trouble locating Mertram's Magicks and finds he can convince Mertram
to part with his last sleep scroll for a bit over cost - 105gp, or, on
special just today, a scroll of web for 210gp.

Gerhard has some luck and peddles his wolf pelt for 15gp, apparently
there is a shortage.

Oberon follows a distance away, keeping an eye on things but this all
seems above-board.

Grimma, Gertram and Dolgrim head towards the Inn, a three-story brick
and wood affair 'Briar's Patch'. The innkeeper, a stout Halfling named
(of course) Briar, welcomes you and offers you shared accommodations
for 6sp per night (all the private rooms are taken).

There is no sign of the Duke. Grimma says hello to some of the locals,
but keeps quiet about the purpose of your journey.

ooc: Keeping things moving - unless you want to stay longer or do
something else, I'll assume you stay the night and head out at first
light. Let me know about the scrolls and any other purchases you want
to make in the market, most things will be available.
