Re: Varying non-human PC rules in different WB editions

Thanks so much for your help here! All of these points make sense to me and I will incorporate them accordingly in the reference. Hope to have something interesting to show you in the next few months. I will also do what I can to stir up conversation here as well :-)

Half-Elf Fighter/MU/Cleric weapon restrictions

In SW Complete, the Half-Elf is the only race that has a multi-class option that includes Cleric (the Fighter/MU/Cleric option). SW Complete is clear that armor restrictions apply when multiclassing (e.g. thief and leather armor, MU and no armor) but not really on weapon restrictions. Do you think t...

Re: Varying non-human PC rules in different WB editions

Thanks! I agree with your reasoning re WB1. So in the case of WB1 vs. OD&D, do you think I should go with WB1 (i.e. the -2,-4 damage version of the rule) or OD&D (the 1/2 damage version)? From what you're saying, it sounds like you mean WB1. I would agree, mainly because in the end Swords & Wizardry...

Varying non-human PC rules in different WB editions

I am working on a comprehensive reference of non-human PC rules that will include both WB and Complete. One thing I've noticed in collecting these is that there are differences in these rules between WB editions (which I'll refer to here as WB1, WB2, WB3, and WB3-BH (Brave Halfling)). Is there any k...

Re: "Special Hirelings" / Followers / Minions

I do have a copy of Moldvay Basic and I found the section you mentioned - it looks perfect to me. It got me reading some other parts that also look useful. Thanks again!

"Special Hirelings" / Followers / Minions

In the SWC section on Charisma, we have the following: "Charisma also limits the number of 'special hirelings' your character can attract into service as vassals. This does not mean normal men-at-arms; it means henchmen who are character types: Magic-Users, Clerics and others. Once your character re...

Re: Spells & Studies?

Thanks for your advice! I recently rediscovered the Holmes scroll rules myself (last looked at them more than 35 years ago :-) ) and I agree with you, they make good sense. I also found this on the RPG Stack Exchange site. It's a nice house rule for studying while in the dungeon: https://rpg.stackex...

Spells & Studies?

OK, sort of a newbie question but here goes. This is both a question and a request for advice on how to play first to second level spellcasters. I will focus on the Magic-User for the sake of example. It is not stated outright, but I guess implied, that a Magic-User needs a full day to study for spe...
