Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Erwin takes a look at the bodies. They are wearing leather armor and have bronze tipped spears, clubs, and bronze daggers. The shortbows they had are of average quality. Each warrior has a quiver with a dozen bronze tipped arrows. Each hobgoblin has bits of silver, copper, and bronze jewelry worth a...

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

The grim reaper walks among the hobgoblins in the guise of a little hobbit. Fungo slips quietly from one to the next dispatching them with grim determination. One has to wonder how to reconcile the jovial, always hungry, little fellow with the grim figure now on the scene. Attercop jumps qui...

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Moonglimmer hears the familiar chirpping of Attercop, her giant spider companion. The spiders brushes against the woodelf. She can feel the bristles of the hairy legged creature. {{ I will guard you, elf-friend}} Moonglimmer, Susanna, and Otis move forward, weapons ready. Erwin and Bane, the Jub Jub...

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Bizenghast stands and performs a series of secret motions and utters arcan words taught to her by the master wizard, Quexel Mitrix. No sooner than the words leave her lips, than the hobgoblins fall down around the campsite. Since no targets are standing, I'm assuming arrows do not fly? Otis may stil...

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Moonglimmer does indeed recognize them as hobgoblins, but something is a bit off about them.

Bizenghast knows that her sleep spell can reach them. They are about 200 yards away.

At this distance, it would be a long bow shot...at least -1 penalty to the shot.

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Bizenghast waits at her post while the others regroup with her. In the distance, the humanoids are setting down to eat the roast possum. One is on guard watching for intruders.

You have about 4 hours till sundown.

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Bizenghast keeps watch on the humanoids while Fungo scrambles back to inform the rest of the party what they've encountered.

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Fungo and Bizenghast move through the forest towards the large earthen embankment of the ring fort. Approaching from the south, they spy 6 armed humanoids. Their features are goblin like but they are taller and heavier built. Each has leather armor, a bow, and a bronze tipped spear. They camp outsid...

Re: Chapter 4 ~ Back to Beamish Hall

Now that the party has been to the ringfort, it is no great problem to find the place once again. Having a wood elf and a cleric of nature as your guides is an advantage. About a half day's travel and you find yourselves at the ringfort once again. Do you proceed through the north gate (the same you...

Re: Spell System Overhaul for OD&D / White Box

I agree with you. Very rarely have I been in a game where MUs choose a starting spell other than Sleep or Charm Person. As you said, Sleep is a nuke in the game for low levels. Having no saving throw makes it really effective. So, let us say all spells aren't equal. Good adventure writing can get sp...
