Thorhall looks to the crumbling walls with pity in his eyes
I see the fall of the goddess has affected many people. More than I thought.
Tell me Tarmo, do you know the people of this city? Is their spirit strong or has that been crushed with their walls?

"I have befriended a few this past year. They are a strong people, making due with what they have. Come, let us find a place to sell my grouse and your sword," Tarmo says.

ooc: Tarmo wants to sell his grouse, craft another arrow and look for a place to stay for a night or two.

Milton curses at the retreating apprentice and at his own inability to fight. He looks around the room and then stage whispers, Hey Alexander. Are you doing ok?

Tarmo escorts Thorhall through a crumbling gate house. The stone curtain that ringed the town is knocked down in many places. Riding through rubble choked streets, you see signs of repair in places around you, but much more work to be done. Thin townsfolk stop in there work, their faces dirty and signs of malnourishment are plain. They nod to Tarmo, for he is no stranger to this town. The giant northman causes them to step back in caution. The townsfolk eye the large man and his horse in wonder.

Tarmo takes the game birds to the town meeting hall where he is greeted by Erlene, a pleasant woman, brown hair with a little gray. She smiles at Tarmo's offering, "Very nice! I will take these and prepare a wonderful stew for you and your giant friend! Please, get settled in, after you stable your horses, I will have some herbal tea waiting."

The nearby stable is vacant, a bit of old straw sits in a few stalls. No horses have been here for some time. Tarmo and Thorhall will need to care for their own mounts, no stable hand is here.

Tarmo knows that the economy of Wickersham runs on barter and cooperative effort. The grouse will be shared among as many as possible and he will receive a warm place to stay for a couple days (in the great hall, with a blanket near the fire). The sword may be traded to the towns guard or other folks that meet in the marketplace.

Tarmo will easily find some materials to replace the broken arrow. He will have time to work on that during the evening.

Actions?

OOC-I hope to connect the two storylines into one when all the PCs meet up shortly.

"I'm good, and you?" Alexander whispers back. "What did he want from you? What do you say we go pay the old wizard Erlander a visit?"

He wanted my mind. My soul. The damned wizard tried to take over my thoughts, hisses Milton. I'm probably lucky he's no master wizard yet, as I nearly succumbed. Would have gotten me for certain.

So yes, let's pay this Erlander. I don't think I'll be happy unless that boy gets one of my arrows in his eye. Let's hop to!

Milton and Alexander

Fortunately for Milton, Alexander is familiar with the hospital and in no time has gathered up their laundered clothing and weapons. The two step out into the dark street.
A few dim oil lanterns are hung at either end of the street and down the block Milton spies the retreating light of a nightwatchman.

The two adventurers pad along quiet streets until reaching the gate house of the castle proper. A guard greets them, "Well, what have we here? Lads it is too late to be skulking around, no? Unless, you've become part of the night watch, you'll have wait until morning to pass."

He is standing near an open door of a heavy stone building. Light comes from it and you can see at least one other guard sitting within.

Thorhall makes sure his horse has water to drink and either hay or oats to eat.
And, after securing his horse in the stable, will return ready to eat and rest.
He also keeps an eye out for any passing guards that may want to trade some goods or coin for the bandit's sword.

Tarmo and Thorhall

Thorhall tends to the stallion, picking a few burrs from its mane. Pulling the blanket and reins from its back, he then gathers up the best of the straw. There is no decent fodder for the horse. He notes that he'll have to bring it out of the castle walls to forage for some grass. Thorhall then gives it a bucket of water from the meeting hall kitchen.

Supper is pleasant, Tarmo sits across from him at one of the long tables. The stew is hot and satisfying. The best that Thorhall and Tarmo have had for many a day. Thorhall examines the blade. Stamped in the blade near the guard is the letter "W". The binding looks good and the steel has a light coating of rust but still of good quality.

No one approaches Thorhall about the blade for the moment. The others that fill the meeting hall are too hungry or tired to do anything else but eat.

As the evening wears on, the two adventurers talk about their situation and what the future may hold.

Erlene gives Thorhall and Tarmo some blankets to bed down near the fire for the night.

Any actions? If not, we will continue with the next morning.

Tarmo thanks Erlene for the hospitality. After dinner he works on his arrow by the fire, then turns in to get an early start.
