“I’m not afraid of any monster,” Susanna mutters. As long as they’re on dry land she’s happy. Still, she can’t resist prodding the pool, with a stick if she can find one. Is it deep?
It’s possible I missed it, but are there any drag marks on the sand?
No other drag marks are visible in the sand other than the ones leading into this cavern. Susanna pokes around in the pool. It is about three feet deep according to the bit of driftwood she found. Susanna is surprised to note that she cannot feel the back of the pool with her stick. That seems curious.
The other party members are busy wrapping up the bits and pieces of the fishermen(?) in a cloak and discussing whether to check out the other tunnel.
Fungo isn’t much of a swimmer but he’ll make the swim to investigate. He hopes there aren’t more crabs.
Sammich feels nervous about that creepy, dark, wet, drowny-hole. "Let's tie a rope around our friend here. If he needs a rapid extraction he can tug three times!"
Fungo ties the rope around his belly and makes his way into the pool. The water is cold and briney. He can feel an opening in the far portion of the pool. Taking a deep breath, the hobbit ducks underwater and moves through the underwater passageway. He crawls forward and in a short time his head breaks the surface of the water. He is in a dark opening. In addition to the smell of salt water, there is another scent that clings to him...a metallic smell and one of putrification. There is a sound of dripping water somewhere nearby.
Fungo makes a noise: Boo. He tries to get a feel for how large the area is. He feels around the edges, starting from near where he swam in, hoping to find something like a shore.
