The captain of the guard looks at the group and shakes his head, "If you are here to complain about the attacks on the fishermen, I've already explained what we've been doing, so move on! Otherwise, if you have some other business, get it told!"
He seems to be in a foul mood at the moment.
Chapter 9 ~ Odimus of Isprey
Re: Chapter 9 ~ Odimus of Isprey
"Hello," Moonglimmer says, flashing her brightest smile.
"We have come to present a letter of introduction to Sir Fynn," she says as she raises the note to show the captain.
"My name is Moonglimmer. My friends and I might be willing to help with your trouble once we speak to the Lord Commander."

Susanna also needs to equip a bit. She whispers to Otis “I hope this won’t involve swimming.”

Sure, Kettleshire. You get there often? replies the hobbit
Re: Chapter 9 ~ Odimus of Isprey
Otis makes a pained expression and says quietly "I can swim, but I'd rather run. Let's see what happens..."
If things don't seem to be going too well with the captain, Otis will step in and exercise some diplomacy... "Sir, we don't want to be in your way, but maybe we can help. If we could just have a bit of time with the Commander? We've got a letter here, see..."
Re: Chapter 9 ~ Odimus of Isprey
"No, I've never been there. If you and them others are looking to help us out, let me know. Me name's Sack, I got a boat on the pier. Ask around, everyone knows everyone in Isprey." He tugs at his cap and walks away with the other men.
Re: Chapter 9 ~ Odimus of Isprey
The captain of the guard takes the letter from Moonglimmer and listens to Otis's plea. His brow is furrowed and looks aggravated, but his expression changes after reading the letter, "Hmmm....well, if you are friends of Odimus, I'm sure Lord Fynn will see you. Check your weapons here in the garrison...that is non-negotiable. Drop your shields here too. Then I shall escort you to Lord Fynn."
OOC--unless you have a reason not to do this or any other questions...I'll move it along.
The captain leads you through the gatehouse and a sergeant takes your weapons adn shields. The captain leads you through a courtyard and into a stone keep. It is flanked by two guards. Through a entryway and into a large office. Two men are standing at a carved mahogany desk looking at a document. A large map of the town and the nearby coastline hangs on the wall. A model of several ships sit on a sideboard.
The captain waits by the door until one of the men addresses him, "Yes, captain, what is it?"
He stands at attention and says, "Lord Fynn, these gentlemen and lady are here to see you. They are friends of Odimus." The captain holds out the letter.
Lord Fynn bids the captain forward and takes the letter. He waves the party into the room. "Good morning, I'm Lord Fynn. This is my second-in-command, Sir Creighton. I understand you are friends of the wizard?" He reads the letter of introduction while talking to the group.
Lord Fynn is in his 40's, black hair flecked with gray cropped short. He has a black patch over his left eye. He wears fine clothes but not fancy, a good woolen shirt, vest, and breeches. His boots are polished but look well used. A dagger rests in his belt. His sword belt hangs over the back of his chair. The handle is functional, not a ceremonial blade you would expect of a man of high position.
"It seems you are in need of gear and have a certain skill set that could be valuable to me, aye?"
"Your timing is perfect. I've got a problem and maybe you can solve it. We've lost three fishermen and I don't want any more citizens to come to harm. Nor do I want my guardsmen to be sent into an unknown danger. Guarding the town and patrolling the waters for raiders is one thing, but it is anyone's guess what is taking these fishermen."
"If you indeed have special skills, I will pay you well. There's 250 silver coins now and the same when you find the culprit and kill him...it...her...what you will. Any treasure you find will be yours to keep, of course."
"Now, tell me exactly why I shouid hire you and then I can help you get this done."
Actions?

Otis - Fighter
Otis nods politely and says "Nice to meet you, Sir. I'm Otis. Otis of Guyre. I'm good with a sword and spear, and I don't like the sound of it that these nice folks are bein' messed with by who knows what. Me and my friends here have done a lotta good back home, and ta' them bad fellas and hobgoblins an whatnot that's messed with us, we've sent em' packin' or put em to the sword. I ain't standin' for no murdering who knows what in these parts. I'd like to help, and like my mama used to say, I got a strong back and a good sword arm..."
Otis nods and steps aside to allow others to speak. This fisherman-killing thing has got his ire up.

As Otis speaks, Susanna will stand just behind him and casually flex; rolling her shoulders and trying to generally look capable...
She doesn't think trying to speak directly to the captain of the guard is going to help the party in any way though!
