Alphonse - wizard

Alphonse comes down the stairs as quickly as he can.
It's a ladder. Alphonse gets down and sees the situation.

Miles drops his bow, draws his sword, and tries to stab around the 6'2", 298# Roikos...

Attack d20=6! Miles misses the monster...Does he stab Roikos? d20=16. Ouch. Damage d6=1.

Roikos is now down to 3/7 hit points.

Roikos and Jahan can now take actions.

(DM hint: Maybe Roikos should try to break free?)

Miles will try to grab the monster's arm to pry it off of Roikos. Hoping to work in conjunction with any escape attempt by Roikos.

"Sorry about the nick there, Roikos. I hope I can make it up to you..."

Jahan descends the ladder into the room with his crossbow drawn when reaching the bottom. He assess the situation and moves towards the cage, going around the carpet. He will attempt to scale the cage to draw the attention of the hairy beast away from Roikos and position himself for a clean shot with his crossbow, if possible.

The cage isn't really scalable, but Jahan does go down the ladder and around the carpet along the north. He can shoot at the monster from the side, but still might hit Roikos if he misses.

OOC: Let's make a Called Shot rule - weapons can be used to hit a specific spot, or (in this case) fire into combat, without the attack going wild and hitting someone else. A Called Shot is made at -4 to hit. This will be a defacto Disarm rule also.

Jahan positions himself to take a clean shot at the monster’s arm that is grappling Roikos (Called Shot at -4).

Roikos looks approvingly at Miles' approach with the sword. Through smashed face and bars, "He does seem rather ungrateful."

The Cleric will attempt to cast Light on the hairy beast's arm if Mile's attempt to free him fails.
Okay, based on this declaration of actions, Roikos will attempt to cast a spell once Miles failed to free him. Except, the cleric is grappled.....

Roikos speaks the mystic words, but when he tries to make the sacred signs, he fails. The spell is not lost, but the action is wasted.

Round #2

Initiative stays the same....

Monster & Alphonse, then Miles, then Roikos & Jahan

Monster tries to rend Roikos! D20=3.

The monster tries to rip Roikos apart with its bare hands but fails to get a proper hold on him. Roikos is still grappled though.

Alphonse tries to poke the beast with his staff. D20=2. But hits the bars of the cage.

Miles runs forward and tries to pry an arm off the cleric. D20=4.

Zoinks! The beast has slippery fur.

Jahan tries a called shot @ -4, plus +1 for close range. D20=7-3=4. The bolt strikes the southern wall.

(Roikos is in trouble, so I am using DM fiat to burn a LUCK POINT.)

Roikos has a moment of absolute calm, drops his arms, then suddenly sweeps them up, breaking free of the creature's grasp.

Roikos and Miles stumble back from the cage. Alphonse steps away. The four men watch as the creature goes berserk in its cage. The bars still hold.

In the distance, the noontime bells chime throughout the city.

Miles says "Back, everyone! Let's not give him a chance to do more damage."

He looks the cage over, "Hmmmm, as much as it would please me to run this creature through, perhaps we should wait. It may be a part of an even bigger mystery?"

Miles takes a hunk of cheese and some bread and tosses it towards the cage...making sure to stay well out of the monster's grasp.

"If we can keep him quiet, then it will be easier to search the lower levels, no?"

Miles will then look down the staircase to see if anyone is looking up at them.

Being that I couldn't cast a spell with 1.5 hands, I was actually going to go "dead weight" and drop limp against the cage. The idea would be the grip would loosen and then I could roll away.

But... luck point works... :?
