I detest the surfeit of provincial laughter. More to come...

Moldvay Basic?!? MOLDVAY BASIC!?! I HATE Moldvay Basic!

<Rage quits. Throws chair across the room. Stomps and swears like he’s returning to work at the docks soon.>

Err, Greyarea? Moldvay is the one you like. You didn’t like Mentzer.

<pauses. Looks sheepish. Picks up chair and sits, pretending that nothing just happened>

So, we rolling up characters then?

Yes, Paul. After your time out, and when you think you're re ready to join us, you may roll up a character. Tom, could I trouble you to supervise Paul's dice rolls? Those d4s can be deadly in unstable hands.

DM hunches ever so slightly behind screen.

Do you really hate Moldvay, or were you just poking fun; if the former, what is it you prefer about Mentzer?

Poking fun. As the silliness states, I never really liked Mentzer. (Or, more accurately, prefer Moldvay/Cook and Holmes)

I like 'em both for different reasons. I wanted the Moldvay set, but Mentzer was the only set in the store when I got started on my own. Mentzer was a grear learning tool. For this game I chose the Moldvay B/X rules because they're easier to refer back to, and I suspect they have greater appeal to most old-school players.

But I won't lie. I own both B/X and BECMI (minus the I) rules in PDF, along with the core AD&D rule books, and will use any and all of them if needed. In fact, I consulted the DMG when deciding how many MU spells to give out at first level. Both B/X and BECMI are too stingy on that front.

I missed that. My brain put 'tumblingdice' as the person you were talking to.

If you get a "hopeless character," then we'll chat.
I'm sure we'll be talking... :problem:

Do you have a particular online die-roller you want us to use?

Nope. Use whatever you like. I trust you.
