B1.3 - Upstairs, Downstairs

The party descends the staircase. The musty smell increases and the stone steps make a shuffling sound as dirt and grit scrape against the soles of your boots.

The new sword provides excellent light.

The stairs open into the north side of a room with an exit south. This room is filled with piles of rock and
rubble, as well as mining equipment: rock carts, mining
jacks, timbers, pickaxes, etc. It is apparent that there has
been no mining activity for quite some time.

There are sheafs of papers, covered and dust and cobwebs, on a short wooden table in the corner.

The 'Scout' stays toward the back, in the shadows, out of reach of the new sword's light; she whispers "Let me know if you need me up front."

Target priority: imminent danger (self or companion), then the target most injured.
When possible, Slip will always try to retrieve previously fired arrows.

"Hmmm," Fauk muses, "this must be where them gnomes had their work stoppage. They wanted more pastries and less digging, I guess."

Fauk scans the room, side-to-side and up-and-down, not wanting any nasties to drop on him. Then he will walk into the room with the magic sword of light!

Bert - Priest

Bert makes his way to the dusty papers, he'll check them out and share the contents with the group.

Tor, not keen on reading himself, eagerly awaits Brother Bert's report. He'll examine the timber/rubble in the southeast corner of the room, poking with the tip of his sword if necessary.

Slips keeps to the shadows while Fauk strolls right in. His dandy new sword illuminates the room well.

Bert takes this opportunity to rifle through pages. They include itemized lists of equipment for mining and construction, letters inquiring about progress, more insistent letters asking about progress, letters demanding a progress report, a letter threatening to withhold payments until progress is at least reported if not made, and finally a letter telling them that no more gold will be forthcoming until further notice. All letters are in common.

Tor skips the letters and pokes around in the rubble, disturbing a few mice who scurry off into the darkness to the south.

The 'Scout' continues to hold toward the back of the group, watching and guarding the group's back while they read, search, and rummage.

Bert - Priest

Bert shuffles through the papers and shrugs, waving the papers around. "Just a bunch of gibberish. Nothing recent. I need a drink." And Bert takes a quick swig of his hooch, offering a hit to anyone wanting it.

Tor accepts the flask from Bert, and takes a swig. Handling it back, he'll suggest, "Let's keep going," and points south.

Bert re-checks his gear and places the papers back on the table neatly. He gets in line to follow the others down.

(Question - did the papers look very old, or fairly new? I think they were dust covered, but just checkig)
