I thought I'd post my player quickstart for Moldvay Basic D&D (PDF format), which will guide players through creating a PC pretty much by-the-book, with the addition of equipment packs. The original blog post for this updated version is here.

Also - the source Libre Office version is here if you want to tweak it with your own house rules.

Looks good, Doug! I never noticed before that thieves couldn't lower their strength score in order to raise their dexterity.

You're welcome! I still use the quickstarts quite a bit, they definitely "scratched an itch" for me so I'm glad when others find them useful.
