"That wasn't a troop...more like a barrel...of monkeys." Cedric grins.

You go into the room, which is small and mostly taken up by a swift-flowing stream that flows under the south and east walls. You see a few rusted pick-axe heads on the rocky floor. Looking at the walls, it appears this room was dug out but never finished, perhaps the discovery of a stream ended construction? Your light glints off of shiny bits of rock in the water, where you see an occasional white cave fish swim by.

So much for finding a magic sword, says Berthold as he checks out the shiny rocks in the water. I was going to name it Mrs. Dash…

Stupid… no treasure… monkeys...
he mutters as he sifts the stream bed.

The stream is about a foot deep and the water is clear. Berthold and Heimer notice that some of the rocks have gold flecks on them, but they are not sure if the rocks contain real gold or not. As Heimer sifts through the stream bed, he exposes what appears to be a brass-colored sphere, slightly bigger than a human hand. Bubbles are escaping from underneath it.

Berthold unearths the sphere (or helps Heimer do it)

Heimer works with Berthold and tries to identify any glyphs or writing upon the sphere.

As Berthold picks up the sphere he can see silt and water drain from an opening on the side that had been face down. He turns it and can see a face in the brass and the last bits of water drain from what appears to be the mouth.

"It's about time you picked me up! I don't do well in water, you know. Totally muffles the voice."

The brass head does something akin to clearing its throat and a bit more water drips from its mouth.

"Well what have we here?"

Berthold senses that the brass head is looking him over.
