Jingle gives the man an appraising stare & shakes his head before heading back to the group. While the others are talking, he unfurls a scroll from nowhere and puts a black mark next to Berthold's name.

Tut tut.

Cedric sneaks a glance at the scroll and nods when he sees Berthod's name.

Berthod has a slightly lower than average CHA, so we'll say -1 to a reaction roll: 2d6-1 = 6. So not overtly hostile, but not friendly either.

The man watches as Jingle backs away. "That's good, run away like the cowards that you are. We're not afraid of Pox, and we don't need any more gold-seekers in this dungeon."

He turns and starts to walk back into the room.

Actions?

Berthold snarls under his breath, They’re right: we don’t need any other gold-seekers here. I say we take what’s ours.

Unless that’ll get me another black mark, eh elf?

Mr Rudeness would not be missed
I'm sure he's off the good list
We could, for a start
Try to open his heart
I you catch my gist

Jingle's fingers hover over his shivs as he whispers his rhyme to Berthold.

Cedric snarls at the man, "He's no coward! He's an ELF! Come a bit closer and say that, you flea-bitten cur! I'll trim your ears and send you bawling back to your wet nurse!"
He draws his sword and advances.

"Now we know what's behind the door and next time we can prepare missile we..." Schmidt trails off seeing folks moving forward to attack, "ah, the bold frontal assault. A time honored maneuver as well," Schmidt adds as he takes out his flail and prepares for what may come.

Berthold unsheathes his sword. He follows the others, grumbling, And I get the black mark…

If there is one thing that Cedric hates, it's a rude doorman!

Does the man hear Cedric as he is closing the door? d6 = 2 Yes!

"Let's get 'em, Fin!" he yells as you see a crossbow raised over his shoulder...

DEX check - 3d6 = 7 for the man in the doorway, 3d6 = 10 for "Fin". The attack order will be Cedric, Berthod, Jingle, Fin, Heimer, Schmidt, Man in doorway. Two people can fight abreast in this corridor, so the charging formation is Cedric and Berthod in front, Heimer and Schmidt in the second rank, and Jingle in the rear. Let me know if not accurate.

Image

Cedric throws his handaxe, which flies clear of the first man and bounces off of the wall, while the crossbow bolt bounces off of Cedric's armor as he advances, sword now in hand.

You meet Fin and the other man in the middle of the corridor, melee begins!

Before I resolve the melee, let me know what Jingle and Schmidt are doing from the back ranks, as they cannot attack directly. Heimer has his spear so he can attack from the second rank.

Status:

No one is wounded yet.

Code: Select all

+-----------+---------+
|Name |HP |
+-----------+---------+
|Jingle |3/3 |
+-----------+---------+
|Schmidt |12/12 |
+-----------+---------+
|Cedric |8/8 |
+-----------+---------+
|Berthod |8/8 |
+-----------+---------+
|Heimer |6/6 |
+-----------+---------+
Mechanics:

Readied missiles go first before melee is engaged from a distance, and indeed Fin had readied his crossbow while you were talking. But Cedric had as his stock action to throw his handaxe and then advance, and he has a higher DEX, so he does that first.

Cedric handaxe vs. man: d20 = 7 MISS
One of Cedric or Berthod will be the target for the crossbow, d2 = 1 Cedric is targeted. d20+1 = 9 MISS.
