Berthold helps up Salty to see if ha can crack things from above. He’s happy the little guy isn’t experiencing dementia.

The pillar is at an angle so it is not possible to stand on top of it. However, Salty is able to examine it from atop Berthold's shoulders - he does not see anything out of the ordinary.

My votes, in order, would be to drag a hook or otherwise bent piece of metal across the (hopeful) bottom of the quicksand.
And/or light an oil slick in the quicksand  just to see what happens.
Or just leave. I don't want to lose Dr. Theopolis, yet, until we see if he can give us good information tomorrow.

Though I'm definitely open to other suggestions. :)

You big burly lads could hold a board in place while me & father Mumbles use tools from the other room to dig a trench from the quicksand. If we drain some of Tholsy's bathwater out, it might be easier to dredge the bottom.

I like the trench idea. Although the liquid is clearly dirtier for my bathing in it. Let’s get shovels…

And Berthold does so.

Ha ha, Twiki. I just remember the big ole Dr. Theopolis face hanging on a charm necklace ;)
