I rolled a 5 for new hit points, so Cedric is now at 13 hp.

Cedric has plenty of treasure now. If he speaks to the local priest, may he persuade him to provide a healing elixir for a sizeable donation?

Rolled a 2 for HP, brings me up to 14.
Removed the Pox's Philtre of Fire Breath - not sure I'd've used it if I knew the DAM!
Next level is oh-so-far away, but then I get a 2nd level spell!

I've read that in the olden times ( since most of us remember them), it was common to bring new PCs into to a group and gift them gold (and hence XP) so they would jump levels more quickly. Discuss it if you like, and let me know if you want to do this with Salty - if you do, I'll let him start with the equivalent 1:1 gold for XP.
That's an interesting HR! I've actually never heard that one.
How much do we each have to gift if we wanted to get Salty up to 2nd? If we third up the XP for a level 2 thief, it's a wee bit less than 417gps each?

Yep, just get him over 1250xp and he is 2nd level. I read that on the OD&D forums, an old post by Gronan as I recall. I think the intent was to only use the gold for XP once - so if you gifted it, you did not get the XP value yourself. I guess I'm being nice :) .

They have two available, 100gp "donation" each.

Wouldn’t it suck to defeat a dragon, get heaps of gold (“more than you can count!”), only to discover that the gold had been drained of XP value?

What sad times are these that inflation has taken hold in our elf games.

Cedric hands the good priest 200gp and thanks him for the two vials of healing.
