Salty snorts, grabs his kit and turns to the door. Grumbling profanities in his native tongue he sets about searching for traps and checking out locks. If he finds anything, he'll attempt to disarm/open it then swing the door open (with it standing between him and anything on the other side if it opens into the passage) and take a bow

Salty does not think the door is trapped, and it is not locked. He is able to open it with a bit of effort and some noise - it does not appear to have been opened in a while. He can smell decay and dust, but still can hear no noise.

His torch illuminates a short corridor heading west and a set of stairs down into a darkened chamber. He'll need to go down the stairs to get a good view.

The corridor is 10' long leading west to the stairs, which descend about 15' west down to the floor of the chamber.

It takes Berthold a minute or so to realize that the nickname was intended for him, and then stand straight with his lantern and sword.

Of course, I shall lead the way, he says and he marches through the portal to the short hall and room beyond.

But not without pausing to pat the halfling on the head and say, Good job with the door. I knew you could do it with some encouragement. You’ll make a fine delver someday yet.

Salty snaps his teeth at Berthold 's fingers then readies his crossbow.

Let me have a poke around first. Wouldnt want whatever's down their hearing your massive thighs rubbing together and mistaking you for a can of pork and beans.

Berthod had already said he was going in, so it looks like he and Salty are going in together, vying for the lead position  - Let me know if the others are waiting by the door or also following into the room.

Shaking his head at the confusion, Schmidt will remain in his slot in the marching order. If they are checking things out before the party is to enter, then he keeps an eye on the north and south just outside the door.

Cedric will let Laurel and Hardy make their way into the room. He'll stay back with Holy Schmidt where it is reasonably safe that is, unless the cleric happens to belch...

Berthod and Salty proceed down the stairs, jostling for position. They go through an archway and into the room, which is about 40' deep to the west. Dust covers the stairs and floor, and the smell of decay is strong here.

As you enter, from the shadows at the back of the room a large creature emerges. It looks like an Ogre, but its flesh is rotted. To your left (south), you see two man-sized skeletons draped in chain armor and clutching rusted swords rise to their feet.

Regardless of DEX initiative order, Berthod and Salty ('B' and 'S' on the map) can see this movement as they enter and get an action in before the undead types reach them. The rest of the party (shown at 'P') cannot see what Berthod and Salty see in the room due to the stairs.

B, S on the map. How appropriate…

Holy Schmidt!!! Cleric, get in here!! yells Berthold as he engages the nearest skeleton with his bastard sword.
