Good dog, Gruff, ejaculates Berthold as he tries to give sword-guy the point of his own blade. As he's dropped his bow, the fatherless sword will be wielded two-handed!

Salty tries to slip behind the otherwise occupied swordsman and open him up like a cheap can of tuna.

The order of actions will be:
Sword-guy, axe-guy
Twig, Salty, Berthold simultaneous with mace-man
Gruff, Heimer and Schmidt


Suspos (d20=13 ... oof, missed the save vs. death by 1!) gurgles and slumps to the floor with a thud as sword-guy pulls his sword out of Supos's gut and lunges at (d2=2, d20=7) but misses Berthold.

Axe-guy moves (d6=1) to help his buddy sword-guy (d2=2, d20=20) and strikes Berthold with a wicked blow of his axe (max damage of 8 for the crit!). Berthold strikes back at sword-guy (d20+2=19 for d8+2=9 dmg) with a vengeance, wounding him further!

Twig and Salty move off to the edges of the room to try and sneak around the melee. There are no shadows here, due to the overhead magical lighting, so the sneaking part may not work. In any case, their action for this round is the careful, quiet movement.

Mace-man attacks (d2=2, d20=18, dmg = d6+1=7) Heimer, who falls to the floor, the victim of a nasty head strike (as a leveled NPC/retainer, Heimer will get a save vs. death next round).

Gruff tries to bite sword-man again (d20=10), but his jaws snap ineffectively against the fighter's armor.

Schmidt (d20=18, d8=6) side-swipes mace-man with his heavy flail, cracking his skull and dropping him (mace-man is dead).

Actions?

Status:

The mage is dead, mace-man is dead.
Sword-guy is wounded, axe-guy is not wounded.
Suspos is dead, Heimer will save vs. death next round.
Berthold is wounded.
Salty and Twig will be in position behind sword-guy and axe-guy next round.

No healing allowed in combat IIRC? Sheesh, two max damages and a missed death save by 1! We are taking a pounding! Schmidt takes out his anger on axe man, or whichever baddie is closest, with his flail!
I think everyone has a healing potion though. Go Heimer make that save! 🤞🏽

I didn’t see Berthold’s move there. I assume he missed!

Yikes! You are right, I forgot Berthold's attack, sorry. I added it to the post, he wounded sword-guy.

Melee is noisy, so I'll say that Salty and Twig don't really need rolls to walk quietly around the room. The only question is whether or not their opponents will notice them given the decent lighting but perhaps being engrossed in fighting. I'll use standard surprise rolls, one for each. Sword-guy (d6=1), Axe guy (d6=5) - so sword-guy is surprised but axe-guy is not. Since Twig didn't specify a target, I'll assume he noticed Salty going for sword-guy and chose axe-guy to get behind.

Sword-guy (d2=2, d20=1) misses Berthold. Axe-guy spots Twig trying to sneak up behind him. He (d6=1) evidently doesn't think Twig is a big threat, as he (d3=1) turns to chop at Gruff (d20=20 for max damage of 8! - poor Gruff is dead), landing a critical blow on the wolf-hound.

Berthold turns to attack axe-guy (d20+2=21 for d8+2=6dmg), wounding him.

Salty (backstab - d20+4=17 for d4x2=8 dmg) sinks his dagger into sword-guy's neck, ending his life in an instant.

Twig attacks axe-guy from behind (no backstab but +2 for a rear attack: d20+2=19 for d4=3 dmg), wounding him with a dagger strike.

Heimer (d20=19 he saves!) holds his dented helm and slowly gets up from the floor (he is alive with 1hp).

Schmidt moves in with his flail (d20=17 for d8=4 dmg), again wounding axe-guy.

Axe-guy, who appears haggard and bloody, looks around pensively, just now noticing that all of his companions are dead and that he is surrounded.

Actions?

Status:

The mage is dead, mace-man is dead, sword-guy is dead.
Axe-guy is wounded.
Suspos is dead.
Heimer is alive but barely with 1hp.
Gruff is dead.
