However, before that he checks to see if the orc appears to have been dragged through it (buildup on boots or shoulders, etc). He will make a quick similar examination of the other corpses to her if any were dragged through this stuff before.
Doesn't look like it to Berthold.
He will also check the floor by the door to the east to see if someone was dragged into there.
There are no tracks or other signs of grease on the floor, only the bucket of the stuff near the east door.

Oh, not a sacrificial lamb, dear boy, Suspo drones,, tilting his nose in the air,
I was thinking more vermin in a cellar.
Salty shoots a sidewards look at the sorcerer, dangles his torch over the grease.
Breathe deep, geriatrics and gentlemen.
Salty opens his hand, dropping the burning brand into the grease.
The grease burns low and slow, with a blue glow and a sickly smell, like rotted meat. It doesn't spread well, either, being confined to the area you touch with the torch.
Berthold plops an orc corpse in the stuff at the top of the stairs (angling it so he’s out of the splash zone—beware Salty) and then shoves him down it.
The dead orc thumps and rolls down the stairs, faster than you would have anticipated. When the body reaches the landing, you hear a grinding noise and the landing floor falls away. The orc body is swallowed up by a 10' square pit. A second later you hear a thump, and soft crunching noises.
